Dr Maria Chetcuti-Cauchi

Academic Profile
Dr Chetcuti-Cauchi read law at the
University of Malta where she graduated BA in Law and English, Diploma of
Notary Public and later Doctor of Laws in European Corporate Law. Dr Chetcuti-Cauchi
pursued her studies at Masters degree level in International Economic Law at the
University of Warwick, England. At the Warwick Law School, Dr Chetcuti-Cauchi
specialised in International & European Banking, International Corporate Finance
and International Technology Transfer.
Practice Areas
Co-founding partner, she currently heads the firm's
Intellectual
Property Unit and acts as lead partner in all
e-commerce
and technology projects. She also supervises the firm's
iGaming Unit and
advises various gaming operators
on legal and licensing aspects of
setting up operations in Malta.
Dr
Chetcuti-Cauchi has handled M&As of foreign telecoms and content provider
companies and advises on legal and regulatory issues involving the provision of
investment services. Dr Chetcuti-Cauchi has served as senior corporate
services consultant at Deloitte Touche and has worked on a number of
corporate
finance, privatisation projects, bond issues and
M&As.
Dr Chetcuti-Cauchi
is an
approved
EPO European Patent Attorney and
trademark agent
in Malta and a specialist in international trademark and patent protection and
intellectual property law.
Legal Research
Dr
Chetcuti-Cauchi's doctoral research in the field
of European company law centred around the
European Company (the Societas Europaea)
as a novel corporate vehicle under European Law.
At the Law School of Warwick University, she
undertook research on initial public offerings via the internet - online IPOs
- in the context of the U.S. legal and regulatory framework. This combined
Maria's finance background with e-commerce expertise. She
has written extensively on the implications of the application of online
technology to traditional banking and finance, corporate law and intellectual
property matters.
Lecturing & Conferences
Dr Chetcuti Cauchi is active in the promotion of the Malta Arbitration Centre as
an international forum for the resolution of international commercial disputes.
She has lectured in arbitration at various local fora and has written
extensively in journals and in the press on the subject of
arbitration and
financial services.
Dr Chetcuti Cauchi has lectured in
Corporate Finance, Intellectual Property and
in Gaming Law at various international fora and academic institutions.
