Malta and Ireland have signed a convention of double taxation for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income.

Malta and Ireland have many common traits including a well educated workforce and growing IT Sector. Ireland has attracted a large number of international companies including Intel, Yahoo, Adobe, Microsoft, HP, Apple, Google, Amazon.com, Palm, to name just a few. Malta is expected to attract similar large players in the IT sector with the opening of Smart City. The agreement is expected to stimulate investment and generate commercial activities between Malta and Ireland and the IT sector maybe one sector that may clearly benefits from this agreement.

Malta and Ireland are expected to ratify the convention before the end of the year. The agreement is expected to come into force early next year.
