The Minister of Finance, the Economy and Investment, the Hon.
Tonio Fenech, announces that an agreement has been reached with
the State of Qatar on a double taxation treaty. This is in the
process of being initialled for ratification by both
Governments.
This agreement extends the double taxation treaty network which
enables Malta to develop trade relations with other countries,
attract inward direct investment and serves as an important
platform for Maltese residents doing business in partner
countries.
Government’s strategy is to improve political, commercial and
social relations with the Middle East. This makes the double
taxation treaty with Qatar an important component of this
strategy. Qatar is a key state within the Middle East with a
population of 1.5 million and a GDP of USD 117 billion.
