Malta – An Investor’s Ideal Destination
16/07/2009 |
|
A recent
study has shown that investors’ perception of Malta continues to
improve. Malta got the dubious honour of being dubbed one of the
"best kept secrets" around. A panel of entrepeneurs and gurus
called for a more comprehensive and faster action to attract
investment before "it is too late".
Many who contributed towards the study held that they were
interested in expanding their business operations in Malta and
commented that investors' perception of Malta as an investment
destination improved in the last years. Yet, they still claimed
that visibility was not enough and this was Malta's major
challenge for the coming years. The companies called for less
bureaucracy, more online services or, instead, the creation of a
one-stop shop. However, Margrith Lütschg-Emmenegger, president
of the FimBank Group, said Malta needed a corporate identity
because, abroad, "no one knows about Malta". Ms
Lutschg-Emmenegger also commented that Malta should not focus on
providing cheap options but should instead of focusing solely on
an expensive, top quality service.
Investors cited favourable corporate tax rate, political
climate, quality of life and productivity as reasons for their
interest in Malta. They also held that the adoption of the euro,
increased transport links, improvements in telecommunications
and the fact that English is widely spoken have led to Malta
being deemed as an ideal investment destination.
