A recently issued Hedgeweek guide on the set up of alternative investment funds has underlined various aspects of the Maltese fund regime which make it an attractive jurisdiction for the establishment of such structures.

The Guide states that the local regulatory regime ensures “the highest standards of probity and transparency while allowing operators the freedom to compete and innovate”. The Guide also states that Malta has gained a solid reputation as a funds domicile which “provides competitive access to the European market and beyond”. The strong local fund support infrastructure is also emphasized in the report, which states that “legal and accounting expertise is fully developed, underpinned by the presence of the major accountancy firms and traditionally strong links with City law firms”.
