“EAST MEETS WEST"
- Information Society in Eastern Europe within a Europe of 25 Countries -
Hotel Ambassador, Prague, 2 - 3 June 2005

In the wake of the accession of new member states to the EU, the legal framework of the information society has become an issue of special interest from West to East as well as from East to West. Determined to address the need for information exchange, DGRI organised the 1st International DGRI-Conference "East meets West - Information Society in Eastern Europe within a Europe of 24 Countries" in June 2005 in Prague, Czech Republic.

The DGRI (German Association for Law and Information Technology) is the leading professional organisation in the field of information technology and law in Germany. It provides a platform for legal professionals, computer specialists and other professionals employed in the computer (EDP) branch to effectively address those issues.

This two-day conference provided a premier venue for discussion and debate on current issues in relation to law and technology and provided a forum for professionals from these fields to share their knowledge and experience within a dynamic, proactive and practical international environment.

On the first day of the conference, representatives of the Eastern European countries, who are distinguished legal experts in the field of law and technology, each gave a National Report of their respective countries. The National Reports were based on a questionnaire prepared by the General Rapporteurs.

Our IP & ICT Law Partner, Dr Maria Chetcuti-Cauchi was the national rapporteur for Malta and spoke on day one on the salient issues in the reaction of Maltese technology laws to the rapidly changing European and international scenarios.
