The Future Generation
For the last 22 years, the 26th of April has been celebrated as World Intellectual Property Day. The main aim of celebrating Intellectual Property Day is to raise awareness of how patents, copyright, trademarks, and designs impact on daily life as well as to celebrate creativity and the contribution made by creators and innovators to the development of societies across the globe.
Each year, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) chooses a different theme which would mirror in the initiatives and incentives rolled out by the WIPO for that particular year. This year it is all about Gen Z and the Millennials. WIPO wants to dedicate this year’s Intellectual Property Day to recognize the potential of young people and to find new and better solutions that support the transition to a sustainable future.
The young generation are stepping up the innovational challenges, making good use of youth ingenuity and curiosity to pave the way to a better and brighter future. World Intellectual Property Day 2022 is an opportunity for young people to find out how IP rights can support their goals and dreams, help transform their ideas into reality, generate income, create jobs and make a positive impact on the world around them. Intellectual Property can be the tool for the upcoming generation to advance in their ambition
The Creators of Tomorrow
Globally, there are around 1.8 billion young people (aged 10 – 24), fueled with creativity and ingenuity. The Millennials and Gen Z are known as the change-makers. They are pragmatists and, unlike their predecessors, grew up alongside tech, connected with the world, and have seen physical limitations overcome by technological advancements. This has shaped them to become arguably the most innovative, creative and entrepreneurial generations.
This is perhaps why WIPO thought it is ripe time to set the stage for the upcoming generation of change-makers and to thus place them at the epicenter of this year’s World Intellectual Property Day. IP can be the key to unlock the next technological advancements, and innovative solutions.
